While not directly in the city of Chicago, the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio is very conveniently located in Oak Park, Illinois. The village bordering Chicago’s west side Austin neighborhood. You can easily reach the village via the Green Line El, the Blue Line El, by bus, or by car.
The Home and Studio is the starting point for one of the largest architecture tours in the area. Every year in late May thousands gather to attend the Frank Lloyd Wright house walk through Oak Park and River Forest, highlighting different Prairie School homes and buildings ever year.
Whether you attend the popular house walk, we highly recommend a visit to the studio itself. Placed on the National Register of places in 1972, it was declared a National Historic Landmark four years later.
There are attractions for all ages at the studio! One of the favorite features of FLW’s home is the Children’s Playroom, built on a scale for little ones, an endearing feature.
Pick up a map and take a walk or drive to the other FLW buildings such as Unity Temple, Robie House, the Laura Gale Home, and the Larking Building. There are many homes and buildings strongly influenced by Wright’s Prairie style as well as structures built by some of his students.
You can find the studio in Oak Park at 951 Chicago Avenue, Oak Park, IL. If you come in the spring or summer, you can find yourself down the street at our Farmer’s Market. Grab some of the home made donuts for your Wright walk and enjoy this beautiful Chicago area neighborhood!
